Gregory sentenced in House scandal

By Eric Freedman
Detroit Journal Staff Writer

Warren Gregory, former associate director of the House Fiscal Agency, has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in federal prison and fined $3,000 for his part in a legislative scandal.

U.S. Judge Richard Enslen, sentencing Gregory in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, also ordered him to repay the state for money he stole. The IRS will seek back taxes and penalties.

Gregory was convicted on tax and stolen property charges.

He is the 10th legislative employee or consultant convicted for their roles in bilking taxpayers of as much as $1.8 million that was stolen, misused or unaccounted for in Michigan's worst legislative corruption scandal in a half century.
